Mrs. Loeffler's Class: Doubles, Dice, and Deliciousness!!

What a busy week we had in Room 17! Although we had our first Math "celebration" (the word we use in class for assessment or test), a fact fluency quiz, and spelling celebrations, we still managed to fit some really fun activities into our schedule. The students are really enjoying the hands on activities and are learning so much! Here are a few highlights from this week!

Spelling

Working hard to sort our new spelling words!! Notice the "Magic Sorting Fingers" on their fingers. We use these fingers because they give us a little extra magic when sorting our new words. Plus, they are just plain fun to wear!

Math

We did a lot of reviewing in Math this week to prepare for our "celebration" on Friday. One game that we played was called "Slides and Ladders" (very similar to Chutes and Ladders) that helped us to review how to double a number. We played with partners and had a lot of fun!

We also made Coin Flipbooks to review coin values and the names of the coins. Many students used their Coin Bags located in their art boxes as a resource to help refresh their memories.

English Language Arts

This week we learned all about naming and telling parts of sentences. We made yellow "Naming" and pink "Telling" dice for a fun activity. The students did an awesome job cutting, assembling, and gluing their own dice. I was amazed! Each student rolled the dice and then used a recording sheet to write the silly (or sometimes serious!) sentence they rolled.

This sentence was recorded as "My best friend chased his tail."

This was recorded as "The picture chased his tail."

Luca rolled "The baby pig is hanging on the wall".

Social Studies:

We finished up our Landform Guides this week and as a culminating activity, we made Edible Landforms. Thank you to Mrs. Alimov for agreeing to come in and help with this fun, but sticky activity! The class had a great knowledge of each landform from our unit already, so this was a great opportunity for them to "show what you know".
