Field Students, Telling Time, and More!

Despite only having four days of school this week, we were very busy! Our class is fortunate enough to be hosting field students from area universities. These students are currently enrolled in classes and are working their way to becoming teachers! We have Miss Shoup and Miss  Kobak from the University of Akron on Mondays and Wednesdays. We also have a group of five students from Kent State University that come in on Mondays and work on math skills with us in small groups. This blog post contains some of the activities and learning experiences that our class is participating in while they are in our room. Here are some of the things that we did this week:
Math
Our field student from KSU worked with students on place value with this cool cup activity!

Another group worked on addition and subtraction with dice

Our Place Value group! The students loved this game!

This group used dice and tens frames to add numbers together

Erin is working on numbers in the 10,000s!!

In Math, we read a version of the story of Cinderella. After reading, we worked to come up with 21 events from the story. We charted these events and brainstormed logical times for these events to occur. Last, we put together a "timeline" of Cinderella's day.

After we made our timeline, each student was assigned an event from our story. Students showed the time on both an analog and digital clock and then illustrated the event. Isabella's event from the story was "10:00 P.M- Cinderella dances with the prince."

Ryann's event was : "12:00 A.M Cinderella's dress turns to rags and everything returns to the way it was before the magic."

 Daily 5

Abby and Erin listen to reading on the I-Pads during Daily 5, Listen to Reading station.

Nora uses stamps to practice her spelling words.

 Other Odds and Ends

Miss Kobak and Miss Shoup (our field students from the University of Akron) planned and implemented a community building activity for our class. The students passed the large green ball to one another and answered a question from it.

Abby answers a question from the ball.

Stay tuned for next week's post that will be complete with Halloween Party pictures! Have a great week!
